Program FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about how the Second Half Network works.

What is the Second Half Network?

The Second Half Network is a private, invite-only mentorship program that connects Tulane student-athletes with experienced professional mentors. It helps athletes translate the discipline of competition into a professional edge as they plan their careers.

Who can join as a student-athlete?

Tulane junior, senior, and graduate student-athletes, by invitation only. Invites are sent by the program team to your Tulane email.

Is it free?

Yes. The program is completely free for Tulane student-athletes.

How does the mentorship process work?

Create your account with your invite code, then browse the mentor directory and apply to up to four mentors. Mentors review each applicant and choose to interview or pass. If a mentor invites you, you book one of their 10 to 30 minute interview slots. After the interview, the mentor can offer mentorship, and once you accept you are matched for a mentorship of roughly three months.

How is my privacy protected?

Privacy is a core requirement. No mentor or athlete names or private details ever appear on the public site. Your uploaded resume and about-me are shared only with mentors you apply to and program admins, through a secure, sign-in-only link. Documents are never served publicly.

What documents do I need?

A one-page resume and a one-page about-me, both as PDFs. They are optional when you first sign up and required before you apply to a mentor. Templates and finished examples are available on the Resources page inside your dashboard.

How many mentors can I apply to?

Up to four active applications at a time. As applications close out, you can apply to others.

What happens during the interview?

A short 10 to 30 minute conversation, virtual or by phone, at a time the mentor makes available. It is a chance for both of you to get to know each other before matching.

Who are the mentors?

Approved professionals across a wide range of industries and career paths. Many are former athletes themselves. Every mentor applies and is reviewed by the program team before joining.

How do I become a mentor?

Fill out the Become a Mentor form. The program team reviews every application and reaches out with next steps.

How do I get an invite?

Invites are distributed by the program team through Tulane Athletics. If you believe you qualify and have not received one, reach out to your program contact.
